Founded by Lizzie Lloyd and co-run with Kit Poulson, WITTA (Writing In / To / Through Art) brings together arts practitioners and researchers who are interested in the broad crossovers with, and intersections between, words and art.

WITTA is interested in relationships between writing and art that are interrogative, relational, enquiring, speculative, performative and unapologetically fun. We are drawn to work that actively and experimentally considers how work developed at the intersection of words and art allows for creative, recreative, uncreative, wayward and imaginative thinking.

Through a series of academic and public facing events we share our research and practice — often as work-in-progress — making cross-disciplinary connections to spark future activities.

So far we have:

Made a WITTAfilm 2024
Facilitated workshops at University of Plymouth and the Kaleidescope Network x Spike Island Gallery 2024
Recorded a series of WITTApodcasts with artists who write (featuring, Catherine Parsonage, Bryony Gillard, Wood & Harrison) 2024
Designed a WITTA Writing Resource called WITTAprompts hosted by Visual Arts South West  2024
Held a residency with practioners and students called WITTAverse at UWE Bristol x Spike Island studios 2023
Hosted in-person conversations at Arnolfini (featuring Polly Barton and Daniela Cascella; Freya Dooley and Cinzia Mutigli; Lizzie Lloyd and Katy Beinart), 2023

And we are in the process of collaborating with Northumbria-based Potato Press and Bristol-based Perpetually Stew with new work coming soon!
